Cupuaçu: the new superfruit from the Amazon

Cupuaçu - the delicious unknown superfruit from the Amazon

Although largely unknown outside Brazil, cupuaçu is used to make all kinds of delicacies like ice cream, juice and chocolate. Cupuaçu has been a important food source for natives for centuries and is known as a superfruit. We are exporting frozen cupuaçu pulp from Brazil that we buy directly from local companies and communities in the Amazon basin. No middle men. All our cupuaçu is harvested in a sustainable way. Targenta is your one-stop supplier when importing cupuaçu from Brazil or other superfruits like açaí, acerola and graviola.

A cupuaçu tree (theobroma grandiflorum) usually ranges from 6-9 meters tall but may reach up to 20 meters. After planting the cupuaçu tree fruiting already starts in 2-3 years.

Cupuaçu grows wild in large numbers in the Amazon region, mainly in the Bazilian state of Pará. As a cousin of the cacao fruit, the white pulp of the cupuaçu has a prized tropical flavor described as a mix of chocolate and pineapple. The pulp is also used in cosmetics such as body lotions due to its hydrating characteristics. The juice tastes like a pear with a hint of banana. The seeds are used for making cupualte, similar to chocolate but healthier and with more nutritional value.
